What will physical therapy be like after discharge from the hospital?
Dr. Romeo has most patients start physical therapy 2-10 days following surgery unless you are having a Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement then you would start physical therapy 6 weeks after surgery.
Outpatient Physical Therapy
- You are responsible for setting up your outpatient physical therapy visits. You will be given a prescription that can be found in section 4 of your surgery information booklet.
- You will go to outpatient physical therapy 2 – 3 times a week until you meet your goals.
- Select an outpatient facility which is close to home/work and that takes your insurance. You may also want to work with a physical therapist you have worked with previously. If you do not know where to go, click here for a list of physical therapy companies we recommend.
In Home Physical Therapy
- If you require In home physical therapy please advise Dr. Romeo’s Physician Assistant’s (Sheri Lask 312-432-2369 or Allison Terry 312-432-2370) prior to your surgery. Dr. Romeo prefers patients attend outpatient physical therapy when possible.
