Dr. Romeo is quoted in a Chicago Tribune article regarding athletes playing through injuries.

“Years past there was a lot of emphasis on being a tough guy and going out there but I think the whole tenor of ‘management of the injured athlete’ has been very favorable to the athlete,” said Anthony Romeo, the noted orthopedic surgeon at Rush University Medical Center who conducted Peavy’s surgery. “Because of today’s economics of sport there’s tremendous pressure to keep the athlete on the field. Our role as physician remains taking care of the athlete first and sharing info to the best of our ability. Coaches do their best to understand these conditions and rely heavily on good relationships with team physicians.”
